How is attendance impacted across different pupil groups?

An interesting breakdown of how attendance impacts on individual groups of pupils – broadly speaking children with identified SEND needs often have higher rates of persistent absence. These children also have higher rates of “other authorised absences” – which needs further investigation – is this because these children are being placed on reduced timetables, for example.

Pupils who are in receipt of free school meals are also more likely to be persistently absent when compared to peers at both primary and secondary level – with significantly higher levels of illness seen – again this needs investigated further to determine whether there are contributory factors e.g. housing needs or food poverty which will impact on health.
